Student Centered & Focused

point.png

The entire approach to this new and exciting youth orchestra is creating meaningful,  positive, impactful, and enjoyable musical opportunities for advanced area string players in grades 6 - 12. We also welcome local college students to join us as well.

Performing and being a part of a musical ensemble

should not end on graduation day.

Ad Astra consists of three orchestras

- APOLLO - GEMINI - AURORA -

Students are placed into one of these three groups based on playing ability/skill level and/or grade level.  Ad Astra is also proud to also offer students the opportunity to take part in the AD ASTRA CELLO ENSEMBLE.

Everyone that is a part of the Ad Astra team understands and champions each member in our program as a unique and valued human being and student musician.  One of our tenets is that every single student in our program is a vital, important, and integral member of their respective orchestra.

We value and understand that meaningful musical opportunities and positive role models greatly impact the social and emotional growth of children and adolescents.

Our organization understands and appreciates that all of our members are active, vibrant, busy, and involved in more than just music activities.  We cherish and celebrate this.  Barely 5% of all students involved in school music programs, youth music ensembles, etc. will pursue a career or advanced degree in music.  Our aim is to help such students solidify their goals of making music a career into adulthood.  However, our biggest goal is to help students instill of sense of joy and enjoyment of creating music together with their peers in a non competitive and nurturing environment. Thus, setting the foundation and path of life-long love and interest of music and all arts regardless of career choice.

Oh…..our rehearsals are FUN…..our performances are ENJOYABLE and MEANINGFUL!

Challenging Repertoire &
Motivated Students

123.png

Our mission is to provide motivated and dedicated area

string students the opportunity to rehearse and perform

high caliber major works from the orchestral repertoire.

Younger students in our program will gain valuable

experience playing in a large ensemble, learning

rehearsal skills, playing new music, and meeting new

friends from across the KC area.

In our first season orchestras performed music by Bach, Respighi, Bloch, Mahler, Grainger, Williams, Mosier, and more....

We even performed a little Taylor Swift, ABBA, Coldplay, Metallica, & Dua Lipa for our community outreach & cello ensemble concerts!

All repertoire selected is highly vetted to ensure educational value, age/skill level appropriateness, challenging, and enjoyable.

Our students have also had the incredible opportunity to work alongside and perform with professional musicians which include members of the Kansas City Symphony and Grammy Award nominees.  Ad Astra has also collaborated with the KC Horn Club, KCK Harp Ensemble and KC's Trombone Christmas.  Gemini and Apollo Orchestras were the featured musical ensembles (house band) for the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner & Awards.
